The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) celebrates 50 years of championing the arts
across South Georgian Bay. Since 1975, the BMFA has connected artists and the community
through exhibitions, arts education, and events that celebrate local talent and make arts and
culture accessible to all.

Based in Collingwood, the BMFA is a member-led charity with a growing membership of over
220 artists and arts supporters. Its mission is to serve as a dynamic, creative hub where people
come together to make, share, and experience art.

With a vibrant year-round arts hub at 65 Simcoe Street, a curated artist shop, and an evolving
lineup of workshops and programming, the BMFA welcomes all and fosters a strong sense of
community through the arts.

The first public event of the 50th anniversary year is the Collingwood Art Market, scheduled for
Saturday, June 28, along Simcoe Street. Featuring more than 60 artists and makers, visitors
can browse original artwork and crafts, meet the artists, and enjoy live music, cake, and a 50/50
lottery supporting BMFA programs.

In August, the BMFA will participate in Sidelaunch Days (August 8–10) with a booth and live
plein air painting by member artists, capturing views of Collingwood Harbour. These new works
will be featured in the upcoming show and Art Auction, Harbour Reflections, running from
August 25th                                  to September 5th the at the BMFA and online. The auction will feature paintings and photographs
inspired by the historic Collingwood elevators and harbour, honouring the area’s past and
present.

Additionally, the BMFA will present a special Retrospective Exhibition. This landmark show will
exhibit works that highlight the evolution of the region’s creative landscape and incorporate the
BMFA’s impressive history as a catalyst for culture in the region.

BMFA Chair Karin Modotto reflects on the BMFA’s 50th anniversary milestone: “This kind of
staying power is no small feat in the arts, which are so vulnerable to economic pressure and
changing times. The fact that we’re still here, still creating, still connecting, is a testament to the
belief that art is for everyone. We owe a huge thanks to the many volunteers and sponsors
whose passion and dedication have kept the BMFA thriving for five decades.”

Everyone is welcome to join the BMFA in celebrating 50 years of supporting artists and strengthening the community through the arts.
