Join the BMFA Board of Directors
Are you passionate about the arts? The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts (BMFA) is looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join our Board of Directors and help shape our arts community. As a volunteer-run board, we’re making big strides with a five-year plan focused on keeping things sustainable and bringing fresh ideas to life.
BMFA is a creative hub right in the heart of downtown Collingwood. We support artists, bring exciting initiatives to fruition and showcase art of all types. The Director of Exhibitions is a big part of what makes our gallery and shows happen.
You will join a collaborative, creative team with a history of valuable community service. For 50 years, we’ve been making connections and supporting one another. You’ll make new friends, connect with fellow art lovers, pick up leadership skills, and gain some real hands-on experience. We have no paid staff, so our board members do much more than give advice—they get right in there, help run the show, and work closely with the community. If you want to use your talents and make a real impact, this is the place to be.
What You’ll Do
• Help plan and schedule a calendar of exhibitions and events so our gallery is always buzzing with activity.
• Look for ways to bring in extra support and income for the BMFA.
• Work with Show Committees to make sure everything is ready for each show, including those all-important opening receptions.
• Make sure all the artwork is handled with care and looks its best in the gallery. Oversee the processes for artists bringing in or picking up their work.
• Keep communication smooth between the Show Committees and artists—before, during, and after the shows!
• Step in as curator for some shows.
• Team up with other Board Members to spread the word—help out with announcements, press releases, social media, and getting everything onto our website and newsletter.
• Be an active board member: support our mission, join meetings, contribute ideas, help with planning, and back up board decisions.
Who We’d Love to Have
Have you worked with galleries, exhibitions, shows, or done some curating? Like collaborating on projects with a motivated, supportive team? Comfortable leading, delegating and organizing things? Good at planning short- and long-term events? If you’re saying ‘yes’, you might be just who we’re looking for! Experience on a Board is great, but don’t worry if you haven’t done it before. If you know Canva, that’s a bonus—but we’re happy to help you learn.
