Serving South Georgian Bay since 1975

since 2016, up and down the coast!

The premise is simple: this is a live, true, storytelling competition where participants are given 10 minutes to share a true-to-them story without notes or cue cards. A panel of guest judges selects their choice for top story of the night and a cash prize is awarded. Last season saw us bring 6 sold out shows featuring over 50 local story tellers to the area. The season culminated in a wonderful ‘Best of’ Grand Slam show at Meaford Hall.

The Georgian Bay Story Slam hosts events that are open to  the public (as participants or audience)every few months.  Our Facebook Page by the same name (Georgian Bay Story Slam) provides up to date details about upcoming events and how to get involved! For the 2019 season, the Story Slam will be holding its first event on March 28 at Heartwood Hall in Owen Sound. A full roster of 8 storytellers will be performing, with musical guests “Our Shotgun Wedding.”  A judging panel of  personalities from various facets of our local arts community will be on hand to award the cash prize.  On this night, our theme will be:  ‘A Humbling Experience’.  Tickets for this event are available on Ticketfly, or in person at Heartwood Home (right below the Hall at 939 2nd Ave E., in Owen Sound). A limited supply will be available at the door.

Follow our Facebook page for details on our summer Story Slam in June and some upcoming partnerships that we are very excited about! This May, in partnership with the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and the Collingwood Public Library, Diana Young (Story Slam host and organizer) will be offering a story crafting workshop at the Colling-wood Library. Bring your true story idea and we’ll workshop it into a well crafted performance! You may even want to share it at our June Story Slam!

The winners and fan favourites from this year’s events will be invited to perform at our Grand Slam Season Finale, this Nov 2nd at the Simcoe Street Theatre. The Story Slam is excited to partner with the BMFA on this event as part of their Fall Storytelling Festival!

We have another big year ahead - sharing stories ranging from the heartwarming to the hilarious and everything in between. We hope you’ll join us behind the mic, or in the audience. For more information or to submit your story idea for a future event, contact us at:  georgianbaystoryslam@gmail.com
