Maureen Shaughnessy, AOAC

"Apple Orchard, Thornbury," oil on canvas, 36" x 24"

"Washing Day, Victoria Harbour, P.E.I.," watercolour, 16" x 20"

Putting a brush to canvas or paper is my way of communicating my feelings about a subject. Once I have chosen a subject I have a focus for the painting. The brushes, canvas and my palette are the tools by which I can explore the essence of the subject, and inform my viewers. For many years I have painted in watercolour, and loved that medium. Recently, however, I have begun to explore oil paint, and am equally enthralled with it! The texture and the vibrancy of colour are exciting to work with and a constant revelation. I find I am drawn to familiar subjects, but am delighting in interpreting them in new ways, in this ‘new’ (to me) medium. My work has been exhibited at the BMFA, the Collingwood and L.E. Shore Libraries and several Toronto venues including the Toronto Public Libraries, Toronto City Hall, Scarborough Town Centre, the Hummingbird Centre and others.
