Cathie Gellatly

Cathie obtained a Certificate in Fine Arts (Fundamentals) from Sheridan College in 2000, and since then has attended many workshops including the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting, the Southampton School of the Arts and Visual Arts, Mississauga.

“Since my preferred subject is the land at a special moment, which lasts very briefly, I think my best paintings are from plein air observation. I try to portray the mood of the land, the universality of land, rather than one specific place. I would like my work to evoke a special nostalgia for a similar place in each individual viewer’s memory.”

She enjoys painting the beautiful towns, farms and vistas of the Ontario landscape. Her recent work is mostly in oil, exploring the various rhythms and abstractions seen in nature. Water, and the patterns that reflections make, is a special interest. Cathie has also been studying the old masters' techniques used in high realism, incorporating them into her landscape painting as well as in still life.

Her works have been exhibited at the opening of the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga, in ArtfullyYours@the Novotel and in shows at Gallery Streetsville; Visual Arts Mississauga; the Loft Gallery, Clarksburg; Win Henstock Gallery, Oakville; the LE Shore Library, Thornbury; The Arts Centre, Collingwood; Meaford Hall; the Blue Mountains Town Hall, Thornbury; Georgian Triangle Hospice, Collingwood, the Juried Collingwood Art Tour and Mementos, the GBHS Juried show celebrating Canada’s 150th. Her painting “Slabtown Dam” won “Best of Show” in the Grey County Artists' juried show, 2010. “Irish Rush Hour” received a Juror’s Choice Award in the BFMA 2015 Juried Show.
Cathie’s paintings are part of private and corporate collections in Canada and the U.S.. Currently her work can be seen in the Marsh Street Gallery, Clarksburg, Ontario.

Cathie accepts commissions, specializing in house portraits and vacation memories. For more information and to contact her visit her website.
