The 2010 Murray Jacob Clerkson Award

The Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts congratulates Mr. Bohdan Chreptak for becoming the inaugural winner of the Murray Jacob Clerkson Award.

Bohdan receives a $1000.00 prize for winning this prestigious Award.  He and his fellow finalists, Cynthia Marsh, Jon Houghton, Kaz Jones and Doug Butler exhibited their work at the Arts Centre in the month of May 2010.

This prestigious Award has been created by bequest to the BMFA by the late Mr. Clerkson and is intended to celebrate the accomplishment of an outstanding local emerging visual artist who demonstrates potential for significant contribution to the local arts scene.

Clerkson was a well known local artist, eccentric and with a dramatic flair in his own art.  He insisted one became an artist when one had the guts to call oneself an artist, charge appropriately for one's work and demand the respect due for the investment of time and energy creative work involves.  Throughout his own career, he strongly supported new and emerging local artists by investing in their work and freely and positively commenting on their achievement.  In this spirit, this Award reflects his continuing desire to support the development of the arts and artists in the Georgian Triangle area that was his home.
